Daisy Ridley Is Not Willing To Play Rey After Star Wars: Episode IX

However, it doesn’t imply that she wouldn’t.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Daisy Ridley clearly mentioned that she is not keen on playing Rey after the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode IX. This is what she had said on the subject.

No,” she straightaway said. “For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now.”

Hang on that sounds a great deal like yes, isn’t it? “No,” she repeated with a smile. “No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”

In that very article, J.J. Abrams had also stated that he believed Episode IX to be the end of the Skywalker story which has dominated the nine-films so far. “I do see it that way,” he says. “But the future is in flux.”

Maybe, it is not over yet. The honest answer is that right now there is no answer. Ridley feels that the story would end in Episode IX because the trilogy would be over, just the way Return of the Jedi ended the original trilogy. (Beyond that, Rian Johnson is going to make a new trilogy which will be unrelated to the Skywalkers). However, Ridley also stated that if 30 years into the future, she is again asked to return, she would be back. While she has a contract only for these three movies, it is quite possible that Disney can always use the cash to once again sign her up, whether thirty years into the future or in 2020.

As Abrams had said, the Star Wars future is in flux. But, it is quite apparent that the present characters are like to get a lengthy vacation after 2019, at the least.

Star Wars Episode IX is scheduled to release on December 20, 2019.
