Top Gun: Maverick Shooting Start Date Confirmed, Release Date Is Much Earlier Than We Expected

Till sometime back, Tom Cruise was a contender for the second male lead part in the Quentin Tarantino movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But, now that Cruise is getting ready for Top Gun 2 (Top Gun: Maverick), the simultaneous summer filming schedules have created an issue. That has now caused the Top Gun to start filming by July only.

The Top Gun sequel will dwell on Maverick’s position in modern-day military, and Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy, Only The Brave) is associated to the project as director.

The announcement about Top Gun’s sequel was made last year at the time when Cruise was busy promoting the doomed reboot of The Mummy which was supposed to be the starting point for the Dark Universe franchise. Cruise later stated that some key members of the original Top Gun would be back for the sequel such as composer Harold Faltermeyer.

After Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise is likely to work on Edge of Tomorrow 2, which will be his reunion with Emily Blunt. The film is scheduled to commence filming either towards the end of this year or in early 2019.

Set to land in theaters on July 12, 2019, the Paramount production Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise and is reportedly going to be helmed by Joseph Kosinski.
