Our Favorite Cinematic Universe Superheroes Bound To Die in 2018

There is going to be no dearth of Superhero stuff this year. We have already got Black Panther in, and now Thanos, Dark Phoenix and a host of other villains are going to debut on the big screen. Needless to say that our beloved heroes are going to have more than enough on their plate, and the sad part is that some of them will perish in the battles ahead.

With a heavy heart, we compiled a list of some superheroes from your favorite franchise films who are likely to die before 2018 signs off.

1. Magneto

Magneto (Micahel Fassbender) is likely to be the character which would bid adieu to the X-Men franchise this year. A set photo has shown various X-Men apart from Jean Grey standing next to a grave.

While fan theories suggest it is Jean Grey, but, there are others who claim it to be Magneto. A recently leaked set photo had shown him in a bloodied and bruised condition.

2. Drax

It would be painful to see Drax die, but, it has to happen. In the comic books, Drax had a daughter and a wife who were both murdered by Thanos. However, the movies haven’t yet delved into the Drax-Thanos equation, but, as seen so far, he is quite an emotional person.

Once he gets overwhelmed, Thanos won’t take long to send him where he had sent his family earlier.

3. Loki

We saw Loki displaying his trademark moves in the Avengers: Infinity War trailer. Either Thanos or a member of his Black Order, slaughtered the Asgardian refugees and Loki is seen walking over to give up the Tesseract. Although a lot of people claim it to be Loki’s betrayal of Thor and his people, there are others who claim otherwise.

It is all a diversion. Loki is just biding time to hit back at Thanos. If that’s how things are then the God of Mischief might be felled by the Mad Titan. It is not ruled out that Loki was serving Thanos and cooperated with him until he figured out that he was only feeding a monster bent on destroying everything. He would try to redeem himself, but, will perish in the effort.

4. Jean Grey

The readers of Dark Phoenix saga would know that this is the time for Jean Grey to be genuinely frightened. In the highly appreciated comic book story, Jean Grey hosted the Phoenix Force, a cosmic being which is the manifestation of all of the universe’s psychic energy.

Things go out her control, goes rogue and destroys a whole planet. She then proceeded to give up her life to prevent further damage. The film’s set photo already showed the X-Men standing by the side of a grave. Was it Jean Grey?

5. Nebula

We need to face the truth. Nebula is one of those characters who could be easily expended from the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup. Therefore, we believe that she might just be one of the earliest casualties in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Just to recall, Nebula and Gamora are Thanos’ daughters or slaves.

That’s the reason which will compel Gamora to enter the battle after Nebula would die trying to save her.

6. Vision

Vision is almost certain to die in Avengers: Infinity War. His forehead is the location of the Mind Stone, which gives him his powers and reasoning.

If Thanos comes hunting for Mind Stone, as seen in the trailer, there are only two options for Vision, either he becomes a complete android devoid of emotions or he gets murdered. We saw how a Black Order member was plucking the Mind Stone from his forehead. Now there is only a miracle which would be able to save Vision, but, even then he would pretty much be a lifeless thing.

7. The Hulk

It would be really difficult to witness Hulk’s death in Avengers: Infinity War. However, we already saw him play a lengthy supporting role in Thor: Ragnarok, and it made fans wonder why was Hulk suddenly getting so much prominence?

The movie rights for Hulk are owned by Universal and not Disney. Therefore, if they kill him in the next Avengers movie, it would be probably the most famous superhero death in the contemporary cinema history. At the same time, there are no plans of a Hulk solo movie being made by Marvel, so they might just bump him off.

8. Captain America

The comic books had shown Steve die quickly, but, significantly in the Infinity Gauntlet series where Thanos killed him. In MCU film Avengers: Age of Ultron, we saw Tony Stark having a vision where all other Avengers were dead and the Captain’s shield was lying broken next to his dead body.

Again in The Winter Soldier, there was a promotional poster showing Bucky with Captain America’s shield. As seen in comic books later, Bucky ultimately took up Captain America’s mantle after Steve Rogers’ death.

9. Heimdall

Heimdall has been subject to a well-circulated theory. He is among the most powerful Asgardian warriors. He had once stated that he could look into 10 million souls simultaneously. Loki had also said once that Heimdall had a power which was unmatched in the nine realms.

Heimdall has eyes of a peculiar yellow hue. Everything put together implies that Heimdall’s eyes have the Soul Stone’s power. If that be the case, then Thanos would be after him. While there have been a number of theories related to the Soul Gem, we need to wait and watch.

10. Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. has played the eccentric billionaire, genius, philanthropist, superhero, playboy to great perfection. No wonder he has become everybody’s favorite on screen. However, age is catching up with Downey and he has become worn out of the role. Rumors are rife that he will make a spectacular exit in the Avengers: Infinity War.

Tony will handover his suit to Spider-Man and die facing Thanos in his bid to protect the future of Earth’s superheroes. Further, during an interview, the star had suggested that he would be willing to exit before it became a stretch. This is what he said:

It’s this cyclical thing. I could have said when the first Avengers came out: ‘It’s never going to get any better than that. Everybody stop.’ But to me, it’s always about people and opportunities, like the Avengers directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who I adore. Everyone says to me it’s like a glove that fits so well. I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven MCU movies I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”
