Leprechaun Franchise Getting A Reboot From Syfy As TV Movie Scheduled For 2019 Spring

During Syfy’s Leprechaun marathon on the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day, it was revealed that they have plans to release a new chapter of the franchise in 2019 with Leprechaun Returns.

The new film, to be aired in March next year, will go back to the start because it is set in a period 25 years after the 1993’s original movie starring Warwick Davis in the lead role. The 1993 movie featured a young Jennifer Aniston, who introduced fans to the evil, nasty Leprechaun who goes around murdering people in a bid to find his pot of gold. The film earned only $8.5 million on the box office, leading to a number of sequels, such as Leprechaun 2, Leprechaun 3, Leprechaun 4: In Space, Leprechaun in the Hood, and Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha Hood. The latest film is going to be written by SuzzaneKeilly(Ash vs. Evil Dead), and Steven Kostanski (The Void) will be directing it.

This would be the second time that the cult film’s reboot is going to be attempted. Earlier in 2014, Lionsgate and WWE Studios had joined hands to make Leprechaun Origins starring WWE wrestler Dylan Postl. That reboot, just like the upcoming one, didn’t release in cinemas and directly opted for the VOD route.

The cast of Leprechaun Returns features Taylor Spreitler (Kevin Can Wait) as Lila, PepiSonuga (Ash vs. Evil Dead) as Katie, Sai Bennett (Lake Placid: Legacy) as Rose, and Linden Porco as the almighty Leprechaun. Actor Mark Holton played Ozzie in the original movie, and he will be back to reprise his role.
