Snyder Reveals Justice League 2 Reference Hidden in Batman v Superman

It is well-known that in the world of comic books, Superman is often an allegory for Jesus Christ, a demi-god sort of being who has arrived on Earth to protect it, and that’s one of the mightiest comparisons. Now, according to Zack Snyder, there is an easter egg in Batman v Superman:  Dawn of Justice which suggests that the hero’s victorious resurgence was most likely, supposed to be a part of Justice League 2.

During a social media interaction on Vero, a fan stated to Snyder about a couple of shadowy crosses in the background of Superman’s death sequence, and the director suggested that it was an indication to the Justice League sequel which he had planned. Upon the fan’s expression of happiness at the disclosure, Snyder responded “#untilitwasnt,” which was most probably an acknowledgment of his disappointment related to the plans to make Justice League as a two-part film, an idea which was later scrapped by WB.

The Batman v Superman scene being discussed here, shows Lois holding the lifeless Kryptonian after his battle with Doomsday, and we can also see Batman and Wonder Woman also mourning. Considering what Snyder said, the hints are visible (the debris resembling crosses), suggesting that Superman wasn’t supposed to be back in Justice League, but, its sequel. It also reveals that Snyder’s original plan was to end the first part with the League members in disarray and barely having survived the attack by Steppenwolf, and also indicated that the delay in Superman’s return was supposed to turn the tables and also to battle Darkseid during the sequel.

Snyder’s revelations keep going what might be a long-term conflict between him and the studio, and things came to a head after the poor critical and box office performance of Justice League. It also made fans wish for a Snyder cut of the film, as his vision wasn’t in sync with what Joss Whedon created.
