The unexpected success of Wonder Woman put Gal Gadot into the top bracket almost overnight, and the film has been a delight for critics and the audience both.
Wonder Woman is by far one of the most prominent female superheroes in DC comic books. The daughter of God of Thunder and one of the three co-founders of the Justice League. She is the representative of courage and women power and has been for a long time now. The Princess of Themyscira is an Amazonian goddess who received her superpowers from the Greek gods, who created the Amazon. Afterward, she has harnessed her powers and strengths to become a key player in DC Universe.
She is more powerful than the Man of Steel, had once picked up Thor’s hammer, and she is blessed with Athena (power of wisdom). Her weakness is piercing weapons and the fact that her lasso can be manipulated against her, although it is quite unlikely, but, has historical precedence.
The film dug deeper into Wonder Woman’s origins, from her time as Diana on the island called Themyscira to protecting the American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) who had crashlanded, and eventually being the force that brought World War I to end. Diana had been hearing tales related to Ares since her early years and knew that he was an evil son of Zeus who controlled and manipulated the human beings into doing horrible and hateful things causing the destruction of humanity. She knew that he would be back to finish what he started.
Wonder Woman earned more money for DC than Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, and even Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
As witnessed last month, the studio had unleashed a major PR campaign to secure Wonder Woman the “Best Picture” nomination and also a “Best Director” nomination for Jenkins. Majority of the superhero filmmakers believe that it is foolish to even go after Oscars because the Academy has no interest. However, there is also the section which believes that the effort is worth it.
Wonder Woman has all the elements of a film which deserves a nomination. Whether we talk about critical acclaim all over, box-office success globally, this female-oriented movie being one of the biggest grossing films of the year and also the Rotten Tomatoes rankings. We felt that the movie had a serious chance at the Oscars, however, the only other time a woman won was Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, and that wasn’t a superhero film.
However, news has also been heard about Gal Gadot being in discussions with Bradley Cooper to be cast in an action thriller movie ‘Deeper’ which will be directed by Kornel Mundruczo. So far we haven’t heard any details about the movie’s production or release date, but, we believe it will be released after Wonder woman two which will start filming in summer and is scheduled to release late next year.
The story is based on an astronaut who is set to go on a mission to go to the lowest point on Earth which is a freshly discovered oceanic trench. He is mired in a psychological battle against deadly, strange forces who were determined to foil his mission. Reportedly, Max Landis is writing the script.
One thing we are sure about is the fact that Bradley Cooper has once again voiced Rocket Raccoon in Avengers: Infinity War as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Gal Gadot is also going to play a brief, but, vital role in Flashpoint. Let’s just wish them both a great success!
