8 DC Comic Characters Who Had Better Concept Art Designs And 7 Where The Actors Nailed It

Bringing to life world’s favorite superheroes on to the silver screen is not an easy task. Movies that are focussed on colorful crime-fighters sequences require a whole lot of preparation and edits before they see the light of day. And apart from the effort that goes into special effects, a challenge is to successfully translate the characters into the real world. As one would guess, what works well on the pages of a comic book will not work on the big screen. And so, it is crucial for filmmakers who take up superhero movie projects to find the right balance and deliver these characters in a way that they remain faithful to the comic book roots.

In order to strike this balance, the directors usually look over many (hundreds and more) concept designs and over a period, they finally determine what works best. In the DCEU for example, over its four years, this franchise is now accumulating a fair share of concept artworks. And a few of them are examples of how a comic book character’s aesthetics can be evolved, and some are improvements over the designs that have shown up in the final movie. Here is a list of 8 DCEU characters who looked way better in the concept art form and 7 which were worse:
