Born as Phyllis Lee isley on March 2, 1919 (Died on December 17, 2009), she was an American actress and mental health advocate renowned as Jennifer Jones and also as Jennifer Jones Simon. Throughout her over three decade career, she received five Academy Award nominations including a win for Best Actress and also a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama. She is among the youngest Academy Award winners, having received it on her 25^th birthday.

She originated from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and worked as a model in her youth before switching to acting by appearing in two serial films in 1939. She had her third role as a lead character of Bernadette Soulbirous in the Song of Bernadette (1943) which landed her the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in that year. She further starred in various movies that landed her a lot of critical acclaim and three more Academy Award nominations during the early 1940s such as Since You Went Away (1944), Love Letters (1945) and Duel in the Sun (1946).

She got married to film producer David O. Seiznick in 1949, and appeared as the titular Madame Bovary in the 1949 film. She also acted in many other films during the 1950s such as Ruby Gentry (1952), Beat The Devil (1953), and Terminal Station (also in 1953). Jones was nominated for her fifth Academy Award for playing the role of a Eurasian doctor in Love is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955).

After the death of her husband Selznick in 1965, Jones married industrialist Norton Simon and she went into partial retirement. Her final film appearance was in The Towering Inferno (1974). Jones started facing mental health problems and was survivor of an attempted suicide where she had jumped off a cliff in Malibu Beach in 1966. After her daughter committed suicide in 1976, she became deeply interested in mental health education and in 1980, she founded the Jennifer Jones Simon Foundation for Mental Health and Education. She spent rest of her life, out of the public attention. She resided in Malibu, California and died there in the year 2009.
