Jar Jar Binks Actor Wanted The Character To Die, He Even Had An Interesting Script For it

Jar Jar Binks In the Star Wars universe had been designed to be a comic relief in the movie, The Phantom Menace but he went on to become a loathed character in this franchise. The floppy-eared alien with problematic implications has just one purpose- to sell toys to children.

His time on screen had been diminished in the movie, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith but he managed to screw up a lot of things. Jar Jar had been granted an interim spot in the Galactic Senate and then got manipulated to proposing that they give powers to Palpatine for building an army. This led to the Galactic Empire.

And what about the actor who played this character, Ahmed Best?

His fate well was pretty bleak also. In one interview, he had he explained that it was painful to be so universally hated and that it was not his fault that George Lucas had written a bad character.

What makes Best happy is the ending of Jar Jar Binks. In another interview, he had revealed that he always wanted a sad and dark ending for this character. He even tried his best to get his character murdered.

As Best says:

“It’s a very somber, very dark eventuality for Jar Jar; I quite liked it! It was dramatic, and I think a good idea to kind of sum up. I always complained to George when I realized that Sith was pretty much not going to have Jar Jar in it and they were moving very very far from me, I always complained to George that I didn’t get a good death! I wanted to be just hacked to pieces in some way… and George wouldn’t do it.

The interesting thing I think about Jar Jar is that everybody keeps looking for an explanation for him, which is human nature, a big part of my book will talk about this. I like all of these theories that try to explain the reasoning for Jar Jar; we talked about the Darth Jar Jar thing before, this one where he comes this tragic character where he realizes he’s been manipulated and loses his mind. I think it’s cool; I think it’s interesting.”
