Here’s A Heat-touching Video Of Mark Hamill Getting Emotional After Seeing Yoda (Video)

Yoda was one of the key characters in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but, the fact remains that chronologically, he has been dead for several decades. Yoda died an old-age related death in Return of the Jedi, however, just like Obi-Wan Kenobi before him, he continues existing as a Force Ghost.

During the build-up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, rumors did rounds about Yoda’s appearance, and it all happened when the diminutive, green, Force-sensitive alien appeared as a Force ghost to counsel Luke Skywalker. Instead of making Yoda, a full-on CGI creature, the Jedi Master was portrayed as a puppet, and as can be seen in the video below, looking at that puppet overwhelmed Mark Hamill.

Among the various special features bundled with Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s home release and also its airing at SXSW last weekend), is a feature-length documentary titled The Director and the Jedi, which shadows Rian Johnson as he entered the Star Wars world to take care of the latest Star Wars release. In the clip (shared by Star Wars Legacy), you can see Johnson and Mark Hamill standing closeby during the filming of a Yoda scene, which was being performed by Yoda’s longtime voice artist and main puppeteer, Frank Oz.

Looking at Hamill, the moment certainly made him nostalgic about the time he spent with the original Yoda puppet during the making of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi, decades ago. It was also great to see Hamill and Oz get a proper reunion after the filming is over, and Hamill was seen pointing out that Oz has aged in a better way than him.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the first time after 1999’s The Phantom Menace that Frank Oz handled a Yoda puppet (although more recent versions of the film feature a CGI Yoda to match his look in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith). As far as Hamill is concerned, he had a mute cameo in The Force Awakens before The Last Jedi gave him a full-fledged comeback to Star Wars. He not only met Oz again but, also Carrie Fisher. It is a mega task to make a Star Wars film for all involved. Still, it was extremely special for Hamill and Oz.

Yoda’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi appearance was shortly after Rey’s departure from Ahch-To to advise Luke when he was contemplating burning down the tree housing the sacred Jedi texts. After Luke decided not to do it, Yoda hurled a bolt of Force lightning and burned the tree himself.

He told Luke that it was the responsibility of the Jedi and not of books, to share the Force knowledge (however, Luke had no clue that Rey had stolen the texts and stashed them onboard the Millennium Falcon). Yoda spent one more moment with Luke before disappearing and later Luke also died after he Force projected himself to Crait, and now he can spend a great time with his former teacher in the Force dimension.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Digital HD comes out today, and the film’s Blu-ray and DVD will release on March 27. The Star Wars will next offer Solo: A Star Wars Story, set to release on May 25 and Star Wars: Episode IX releases on December 20,  2019.
