With Marvel’s still-untitled Avengers 4 is progressing along nicely, there have been reports and leaked set photos which sound like the film will travel back in time to the early days like a scene that takes place during World War II, another showing Loki during the Battle of New York and many more.
With Captain America wearing a bright costume and Mark Ruffalo in a motion capture suit as Hulk.This seems to fuel rumors that the 2019 film will have flashback sequences.
However, there are some discrepancies like Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man appearing in the photos, despite the fact that he shouldn’t have been there at the Battle of New York at that time. Then, there’s also Tony Stark wearing a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform which makes us come to the conclusion that the film could be set in an alternate reality.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos is working towards getting the gems for assembling the Infinity Gauntlet, so it could be possible he would use the Reality Stone to alter reality altogether. This could explain the above sequences.
According to a rumor, Pepper Potts dies in Infinity War, and yet Gwyneth Paltrow was seen filming for Avengers 4, maybe that’s because in an alternate reality Pepper survives and she and Tony live happily together.
It is also possible that Scott Lang could travel to this alternate reality or it is even possible that the scene with Ant-Man, Captain America, Hulk and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Stark could be the end-credits of Ant-Man and the Wasp, setting the stage for the Avengers finale.
This is probably the reason why we still don’t know the title of Avengers 4. It could give us all the information we need to confirm what the story will be like. The more we learn about it, the more it seems likely the movie will feature either an alternate past or present reality which is something that would bring the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe full circle.
