Are We Going To See More Of Skywalkers In Star Wars? This Is What Kathleen Kennedy Said

There has been a lot of insane sci-fi adventures and mystic elements which we have seen in the Star Wars universe during the last forty years, but, the series is based on a simple concept: family. The Luke Skywalkers have been the central point for most of the legendary Star Wars stories, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi carried the pattern forward. However, there has to be an end. Are they planning to continue with the Skywalker clan’s incessant drama in the Star Wars films beyond the ongoing trilogy? As stated by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, it is not ruled out, but, there is no final decision taken yet.

I certainly foresee movies past nine. Whether or not we carry on the Skywalker saga… you know, George always intended nine movies, and whether we continue that or not is something we’re talking about right now. If the story warrants it, we’ll absolutely do it. If it actually inspires new ideas, then we’ll probably head in that direction. We just don’t know yet.

George Lucas might have been earlier willing to keep the Skywalker family story to run through the nine films, but, the remarks from Kathleen Kennedy indicate that more is not impossible yet. For now, the plan seems to be to stylishly put it all behind now that Luke Skywalker has perished in The Last Jedi, and there is no possibility to continue with Leia Organa due to the unexpected demise of Carrie Fisher in December 2016. The way it looks to be, the Star Wars: Episode IX releasing next year will set the tone for the future of the galaxy far, far away, and will also answer whether or not we will see any other Skywalker join the Star Wars saga.

For now, the most important and decisive thing is to find out the real identity of Daisy Ridley’s Rey. Despite what Kylo Ren said about her parents in The Last Jedi, there might be a twist, and she might turn out to be the last surviving Skywalker in the Star Wars universe. That’s the only hope for the clan, or else the saga will embark on a new journey with the fresh crop of characters.

There are various ways to consider this. while it would be sensible to consider keeping the Skywalker bloodline going as they have been a key element of the Star Wars, it is also true that we have already seen whatever the Skywalkers could offer us, and with Luke and Leia’s stories having wrapped up, it is difficult to imagine any other  future than to see a change of guard. It is beyond doubt that there are a number of characters that can be explored in the future Star Wars films to keep their appeal going without relying on the Skywalkers.

Star Wars: Episode IX is still a little less than two years away, and a lot can be revealed by that film. Let’s just hope to see many many more fascinating Star Wars films for the next several years to come!

The next Star Wars film to release would be Solo: A Star Wars Story releasing this summer.
