Born on July 28, 1986 in a Muslim family in New Delhi, India as Huma Saleem Qureshi, she is an Indian film actress and model who has received three Filmfare Award nominations. Her father Saleem Qureshi is a restaurateur who runs a chain of restaurants (Saleem’s) and her mother Ameena Qureshi is a housewife of Kashmiri origins. Her family had moved to Kalkaji, South Delhi when she was a child. She completed her bachelor in History with Honours from Gargi College, University of Delhi. In the year 2008, she relocated to Mumbai to audition for movie roles. She auditioned for a film Junction which was never made. “I never thought of coming to Mumbai or being an actress. But, when my friend called me for an audition for a movie called Junction, it set me thinking. Sadly, the film never got made.” Qureshi signed a two-year contract with Hindustan Unilever to feature in their television commercials. She promoted a number of products including Samsung Mobile (with Aamir Khan), Nerolac (with Shah Rukh

During a shooting for Samsung Mobile commercial, director Anurag Kashyap was impressed by her acting talent and asked her to work in a film. Qureshi recalled, “I didn’t believe him then.
