Born as Nikolina Konstantinova Dobreva on January 9, 1989, in Sofia, Bulgaria, she is a Bulgarian-Canadian actress and model. She was only two years old when her family moved to Canada and she grew up in Toronto, Ontario. She has been living there since then.
She first went to Vradenburg Junior Public School and later to J.B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School. During her school days, she started learning ballet and jazz and took part in rhythmic gymnastics. After school, she got enrolled at the Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts, Scarborough, Canada. After graduating from there, she studied at the Ryerson University in Toronto, and majored in Sociology. However, acting influenced her and she left studies in the year 2008 to enter the world of acting.
She got enrolled at the Armstrong Acting Studios in Toronto and learned acting. She only became more passionate about dance, gymnastics, theatre, music, visual arts and acting with the passage of time. Soon she turned her passion into her profession.
She became famous by playing the role of Mia Jones in the drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. However, her most famous role of her initial acting days was as Elena Gilbert/Katherine Pierce on The CW’s supernatural drama show titled The Vampire Diaries. Outside the world of television, she has also starred in numerous films such as ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’, ‘Let’s Be Cops’, and ‘The Final Girls.’
Dobrev is a multilingual person who can speak English, French and Bulgarian. She is fond of travelling and often travels to Europe. She loves playing volleyball, soccer, swimming, rock climbing, wake boarding, snowboarding, and horseback riding. She has also been the Canadian representative in international aesthetic gymnastics events.
