Born as Danica Mae McKellar in La Jolla, California on January 3, 1975, she is an American actress. She is renowned for having played the role of Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years. McKellar grew up in Los Angeles. Her father, Christopher happened to be a real estate developer while her mother Mahalia was a stay at home mother. Danica also has a sister named Crystal who is a professional actress like Danica. During her childhood, Danica attended acting classes at a performing arts school named Diane Hill Hardin Young Actors Space. She was only 9 years of age when in the year 1984 she started acting in TV commercials. By the year 1987, she featured in two episodes of the revamped TV show The Twilight Zone.
She was 13 years of age, McKellar got her major break with a role on the popular ABC TV series The Wonder Years. She was featured as Gwendolyn “Winnie” Cooper opposite Fred Savage as Kevin Arnold. McKellar was shown to be Kevin’s first love, and was primary to the show’s coming of age narrative. Her sister Crystal was also seen on The Wonder Years as a recurring character of Becky Slater, the vengeful and spurned lover of Kevin. The Wonder Years had a five year long run ending in the year 1993.
During the run of the show, McKellar won a number of award nominations for her performance as Winnie Cooper. In the year 1989, she won the Young Artist Award, for best young actress in a featured, co-starring, supporting or recurring role in a comedy or drama series or special.
She later did her Ph.D. in mathematics and in the year 2007, her first book Math Doesn’t Suck: How to Survive Middle School Math Without Losing Your Mind Or Breaking A Nail was published. Mckellar kept pursuing a career in acting , and had success in voiceover roles as well.
