Born as Grace Lillis Gealey in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1984, she is an American actress. She was raised in the Cayman Islands from her infancy days. She is well-versed with the sign language since she has deaf parents. The gorgeous actress is 5’5” tall. She is also known by the name Grace Byers and she moved to America to attend the University of South Florida in Tampa, from where she received a B.A. in Theater Arts. During her time at the University, acting provided her with an opportunity to communicate viscerally, which was a desire that had originated due to the fact that she was a child of deaf adults. After she graduated from college, Gealey was accepted into the University of California Irvine’s graduate program and she received her M.F.A. in Acting from there. A successful showcase resulted in her moving from Los Angeles to New York City, where Gealy performed as a professional. Several theater productions, short films and national commercials took her to Chicago. She debuted on network television in Empire (2015).

Gealy later moved to New York City, where she had performed Off-Broadway, including in Venus Flytrap: A Femme Noir Mystery, and Rent. In the year 2013, she performed in the Chicago productions of The Misanthrope and Tartuffe. In 2014, Gealey was cast as Anika Calhoun in the Fox musical prime time drama, Empire opposite Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. The series premiered on January 7, 2015.

In 2018, Gealey published a children’s book based on her experiences after having been bullied as a child of deaf parents. She wrote it to empower children to love and accept themselves.

Gealey got engaged to her Empire co-star Trai Byers in 2015, and they married on Grand Cayman Island on April 14, 2016.
