Born on 6 June 1986 as Virginia Claire Wigmore, she is a singer and songwriter from New Zealand. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand to Peter and Adrienne Wigmore. She also has two older siblings, brother Olly and sister Lucy Wigmore who is a professional actress famous for appearing as Justine Jones in a long-running New Zealand soap opera titled Shortland Street and a role in Underbelly: Razor. Wigmore was inspired by David Gray’s album White Ladder, Wigmore wrote her first song “Angelfire” when she was fourteen years old. After two years, her father died of cancer and Wigmore stopped writing and playing music. She travelled to Argentina on an exchange program to teach at a kindergarten. Upon her return to New Zealand, she wrote “Hallelujah”, a tribute to her late father. Her sister entered the song in a US based International Songwriting Competition in the year 2004. Wigmore beat 11,000 songwriting aspirants from 77 countries all over the world to become the youngest and the only unsigned Grand Prize winner in the entire history of the competition. She was also the winner of the Teen category with “Angelfire.” She stated:

“Hallelujah was my way of telling my family I had dealt with dad’s passing and honestly, I didn’t want to share these feelings with anyone else. I wanted the moment for myself and my family.”

She has been featured on the Smashproof single “Brother” in 2009, and Wigmore further released four more albums Holy Smoke (2009), Gravel & Wine (2011), Blood to Bone (2015) and Ivory (2018), and the first three of them were chart-toppers on the New Zealand Albums Chart. She is famous for her high pitched and raspy voice.

She married the former lead singer of the band Letlive Now, Jason Butler who is now the lead singer of the Fever 333 band, during a private ceremony in Hawaii in September 2014. Their first child Ivory Nashoba Butler was born on 7 September 2017.

She is a vegetarian and was among the shortlists for SAFE’s “New Zealand’s Hottest Vegetarians” award in 2015.
