Born as Almudena Cid Tostado on 15 June 1980 in Vitoria, Pais Vasco, Spain, she is a former Spanish individual rhythmic gymnast who participated on the Spanish national team. She began practicising rhythmic gymnastics when she was 7. She first went to Arabatxo club and later to Beti Aurrera club in Vitoria where other famous gymnasts like Tania Lamarca and Estiballz Martinez received training. Her coaches were Aurora Fernandez del Valle and Iratxe Aurrekoetxea.

She was 13 years old when in May 1994, she participated in her first international competition where she received one gold and two bronze medals. In November 1994, Emilia Boneva asked her to start as a member of the Spanish national individual team in Madrid. She trained there for average of 8 hours a day in gym Gimnasio Moscardo.

During the Spanish Individual Championships in 1995, Almudena led for the first time in a national event. In June 1995, she reached the 12^th position at the Final EuropeanCup in Telford (England).

She happens to be the only rhythmic gymnast that competed in four Olympic finals.

She was the first Spanish gymnast ever to have competed in two Olympic finals, Atlanta and Sydney and she is the only rhythmic gymnast to quality to the finals of four consecutive Olympic Games: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

She won the gold medal I the XVth Mediterranean Games Almeria 2005 and she has received various other national and internation honors including the gold medal in the Royal Order of Sports Merit in 2009 which is a Spanish Civil Order of Merit awarded to those in the field of sport and physical education.

After a 21 years long career, Almudena retired from rhythmic gymnastics on 23 August 2008. At present she works as a sports commentator for rhythmic gymnastics events. Since the year 2014, she has been writing Olympia, a children’s story collection where she talks about her sporting life.
