Born as Brittany Ann Viola on April 19, 1987 in Minnesota, she is an American platform diver previously associated with the University of Miami. In 2008 and 2011, she won the NCAA championship in diving’s ten-metre platform. She was selected for the US diving team for the 2009 World Aquatics Championships held in Rome and 2011 World Aquatics Championships held in Shanghai. Viola was the Captain of the U.S. Diving Team in 2009.

She started dreaming of Olympic performance when she saw the Magnificent Seven, United States Gymnastics Team finishing second in the 10-metre platform at the US Olympic Team Trials during her high school. Before she attended the University of Miami, Viola attended and graduated in 2005 from Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida. During her high school, she trained with what is now known as the YCF Diving at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida. In the year 2008, Viola was named an alternate for the U.S. Olympic Diving Team after she was placed fourth in the trials. Among her biggest successes was her second place finish in the U.S. Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2009.

In June 2012, Viola sailed through the United States Olympic Team Trials and secured a place on the U.S. Olympic team. She was over 60 points ahead of the second place member, Katie Bell. Viola was also the Student Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC) President first for the University of Miami from 2008 to 2011, and later the SAAC Chairman for the ACC in the 2008/2009 academic session.

Brittany Viola’s father is the former Minnesota Twins pitcher, Frank Viola. While she was initially trained in gymnastics, but, she retired when she was 13-years-old to focus on diving because she didn’t wish to relocate to train.
