Luke Cage has now cast actress, Annabella Sciorra as their new villain, Rosalie Carbone for the second season of the show. Season 2 of Marvel’s Jessica Jones had landed on Netflix very recently, and the fans are now looking forward to the Defenders mini-verse. This will see Mike Colter making a comeback as the protector of Harlem.
Season 1 of Luke Cage had created a few hard acts to follow when it came to its villain- Mahershala Ali who won an Oscar for the role he played in Moonlight, played Cottonmouth; Alfre Woodard played the role of Mariah Dillard; and Erik LaRay Harvey took on the role of Willis Stryker (Diamondback). Now, with Cottonmouth being dead and Diamondback having been arrested, there is a huge power gap in the criminal underworld, and Rosalie Carbone is now ready to step in.
Rosalie has been taken from the comics, Punisher: War Journal and Punisher: War Zone series where Rosalie was a member of the Carbone, crime family. Sciorra’s Rosalie has been described as “a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem.”
Sciorra is certainly not a stranger to crime drama and has starred in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Cop Land, and Romeo is Bleeding and also played the role of Gloria Trillo in The Sopranos. Luke Cage’s showrunner. Cheo Hodari Coker had spoken to EW and said that he had been a follower of Sciorra’s work:
“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Annabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone… You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”
The official synopsis for the show’s season 2 had mentioned,
“the rise of a formidable new foe” who will be forcing Luke to “confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.”
We can say that it is now safe to assume that Rosalie Carbone is the enemy.
Luke Cage season 2 will be arriving on Netflix on June 22nd, 2018.
