John Boyega Talks About Playing Superhero Role In Upcoming Films

John Boyega is soon going to be seen in the upcoming Pacific Rim Uprising, and he has been cast as fans in a number of popular superhero roles, a list that includes the DC Comics’ John Stewart in the Green Lantern Corps film as well as Blade from Marvel. Now, Boyega has personally responded to the prospects of playing those roles.

Boyega was asked by Screen Rant if he has any interest in becoming a part of the comic book movie universe. “I mean, yeah,” Boyega replied. “I mean, that wouldn’t be a problem. I just don’t know who.”

It was then suggested that he could play Stewart or Blade, and Boyega said:  “They’re doing a Green Lantern? [Groans] Sss. Hmmm … Eghhh … [Laughs] And Wesley, man. That’s Wesley [Snipes] for Blade. I would want to see Wesley.”

The response from Boyega clearly indicates that he is not really keen to play either of those characters, but, that can always change.

Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, has stated his willingness to make a new Blade film, but, that won’t be happening in the near future. Snipes has also shown a clear interest in playing Blade again. However, it is possible that Marvel would be willing to introduce a new actor.

Green Lantern Corps’s casting is also still to be finalized. Last year the Fast and the Furious star Tyrese Gibson had confirmed that he discussed with Warner Bros. about playing Stewart, but, there is nothing to suggest that those discussions advanced any further. Screenwriter Michael Green wishes to see Ricky Whittle (American Gods) put on Stewart’s ring. The movie’s casting details indicate that they plan to pick up someone between 21 – 30 to play the role, and that means Boyega is well-suited to the age bracket.

Directed by Steven S DeKnight, Pacific Rim Uprising will release in theaters on March 23, and the movie stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Rinko Kikuchi, CaileeSpaeny, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, Karan Brar, Ivanna Sakhno, Zhang Jin, Zhu Zhu, Burn Gorman and Charlie Day.
