Infinity War Movie Draws Inspiration From 3 Major Comics

The very first trailer of Avengers: Infinity War had left all the fans to their imagination, but the latest trailer has shed a lot of light on the fate of our heroes. In an interview, the Russo Brothers had spoken about the comics’ influences on this upcoming film and had noted that they had taken a few elements from three of the storylines.

The Russo Brothers had discussed how the stories had impacted this film and what they like about it. The first one is Jim Starlin’s Infinity Gauntlet, and this is a 6-issue limited series which was released in 1991. This is what Joe Russo had to say:

“Certainly the Starlin book was our jumping-off point. It’s a brilliant comic. The ideas behind it are so large, it’s what pushed us to go for the scale that we’re going for on these movies. Anthony and I love the post-modern comics, so we’re also drawing from Infinity, the newer stuff. We’re combining it all into, again, what’s our favorite stuff, and how do we see elements from each helping our story, and the story that we want to tell.”

Jonathan Hickman’s series, Infinity was another influence that Joe had brought up. This storyline has been hinted at in the latest trailer when Doctor Strange is being tortured by Ebony Maw. In the comic, Thanos and the Black Order used Strange as a double agent and even tortured him to lead the Mad Titan to the Infinity Stones.

The third influence is from the Secret Avengers series, and this had run from 2010 to 2015. The Secret Avengers references had popped up in Captain America: Civil War and the story will continue into the upcoming Infinity War.

The new Infinity War trailer showed us a very dark undertone and even seems to be hinting at the death of a few heroes.

This movie will release on 27 April, 2018.
