Last year, the news of Sylvester Stallone walking out of the Expendables franchise was a shock to all. After all, he was the main star and creator.
It was rumored that Sly stepped down after disagreements with producer Avi Lerner.
“Oh no” was the world’s reaction to the news while the cool-headed Sly continued to keep silent. Even though one of the most loved stars, Sly has been known to have a controversial persona.
During his career, he was nominated for the Oscars thrice and has tens of prestigious awards that could make any actor jealous. Contradictory to this, he holds a record for being among the nominees of the Razzies for the Worst Actor award with 14 nominations and 4 wins.
Despite the above, we cannot forget his contribution in creating iconic characters and multimillion franchisees – be it Rocky, Rambo or the Expendables.
In the Expendables franchise, we have been able to see some fine star cast including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gary Daniels, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, Eric Roberts, Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mel Gibson, Jason Statham, the MMA sensation Ronda Rousey, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Scott Adkins etc.
Every upcoming Expendables movie was cherished, and fans waited for it to see who Sly would launch in the new sequel. There was always a new addition to the already powerful star cast.
With the Expendables franchise, Sly managed to accomplish three important tasks. Firstly, he gave his fans an opportunity to see all their beloved stars together on the big screen doing what they did the best. Secondly, he managed to revive some names that were fading away from people’s memories. Thirdly, while introducing the golden oldies, he also made sure to make way for some new aspiring star cast.
Dolphe Lundgren, Jean Claude Van Damme, Scot Adkins and Gary Daniels, all who had probably forgotten the big screen were given a new shot at it.
MMA Champions Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Randy Couture, and wrestling champion Steve Austin all got a once in a lifetime opportunity to switch career paths and come into the world of movies.
Well, don’t be sad fans, we have some good news for you. As Avi Lerner had pointed out last year, that the divorce between him and Sly wasn’t 100% sure, it seems to have come true this January. Sylvester Stallone would be returning to Expendables 4, and we are sure it is going to be one hell of a blockbuster!
