Celebrities Who Said NO To Autographs!

59 Funny And Tragically Awkward Wedding Photos

Let’s face it: If you saw your favorite celebrity walking past you, you’d feel a palpable urge stop them and ask for an autograph. And that’s totally understandable, because who wouldn’t want to nab a few minutes with a world-famous star?

However, while it might be hard to imagine, being a global pop star or A-list actor has its drawbacks, the main one being that you can’t leave your house without someone noticing you and asking for an autograph! They may have millions of dollars in the banks and adoring fans the world over, but privacy is something we all value, and for these celebrities, signing autographs isn’t something they particularly like, so much so that they’ve put a stop to them all together!

Here are some notable examples.

1. Will Ferrell

38 Weird And WTF Photos That Cannot Be Explained

Everyone’s favorite funnyman seems like the jovial kind who wouldn’t bat an eyelid if one of his fans approached him for an autograph. However, that is far from the case. The Anchorman star has reportedly mocked and taunted fans who requested his signature, which seems to be at odds with his Mr. Nice Guy image he likes to project on screen.

The “Saturday Night Live” superstar does, however, have a vetting process. If you really want his signature, he’s going to see if you’re a real fan and not simply an arriviste autograph hunter looking to make a quick buck on eBay. So be prepared for a barrage of questions about his career if you want to get it!

2. Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz, star of such films as The Mask and Gangs of New York, may have turned her back on Hollywood, but that’s unlikely to mean she’ll have more time for her fans. In fact, the blonde beauty has been known to tell autograph hunters to “f**k off”.

But her apparent rudeness does have some logic to it. She reasons that if one person asks, everyone else will notice and ask too, which is probably a royal pain in the ass. Then again, if you’re getting paid $10m a movie, you’d think she’d be happy to accept the more annoying parts of her job. Celebrities ey?

3. Bruce Willis

Celebrities Who Said NO To Autographs!

Bruce Wilis is a bit of a grumpy sod, isn’t he? Great actor, but a bit miserable. Anyway, the Die Hard star will sign things at public events, but won’t even think twice about stopping for people when he’s off duty, so much so that he reportedly humiliated two kids who pointed him out in a shopping mall.

According to one fan speaking to MeanStars, Willis supposedly called out two children in a shopping mall for merely recognizing him and pointing at him, not that children would even know who the old fart is anymore.

4. Steve Carell

Steve Carell doesn’t seem as grumpy and intimidating as Bruce Willis, but he’s been known to display a similar level of disdain towards autograph seekers. However, if you do manage to catch Carell in a good mood and ask for an autograph, be prepared to hand him a black pen- he doesn’t do blue pens.

Oh, Steve!

5. Paul McCartney

The world’s most famous living musician has spent most of his life being hounded by the press and overzealous fans, but in 2010 he had finally had enough and said he would no longer sign autographs. The star said this while on the street, believing that “most people are very understanding because they understand privacy.”

They also understand that his autograph is worth a lot of money. According to a list of the most valuable living autographs compiled by memorabilia experts Paul Fraser Collectibles, McCartney’s signature is valued more highly than the Queen of England’s, with average signed McCartney memorabilia regularly fetching over £2,000.

6. Tobey Maguire

Once an A-list actor who appeared in the Spiderman film series and alongside Oscar-winner Michael Caine in The Cider House Rules, Tobey Maguire is now very much on the brink of becoming a has-been actor known more for his friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio than for his acting credits. But we don’t think Maguire is too fussed.

At the peak of his fame, Maguire would always refuse autographs, something Autograph Collector Magzine picked up on when they included him on their “worst autographer” list.

7. Jack Nicholson

One of the greatest actors of his generation, and arguably of all time, Jack Nicholson rarely makes a movie these days, instead preferring to spend his time with his family watching the L.A. Lakers and according to one journalist, hockey matches. However, Nicholson didn’t manage to see much of the match.

“See?” he said, “That’s why I don’t sign autographs.” Fair point!

8. John Malkovich

The oddball thespian doesn’t care much for autographs, yet was more than happy to star in a movie with his name in the frickin’ title, so it seems odd that he shuns the limelight.

But Hollywood stars seem to be of the opinion that they still deserve to be left in peace, despite knowing what they were signing up for, and unless it’s at a fashion show regarding his clothing line, Uncle Kimono, asking Malkovich for an autograph will most likely be met with a bg fat no.

9. Rihanna

Rihanna may have made a hit track called “Rude Boy”, but judging by her fan interactions over the years, it may have been more apt to title the song “Rude Girl. In one instance, a fan recalled an incident backstage with the star. “My co-worker won free tickets and backstage passes to see Rihanna about a year after they were first playing ‘Umbrella’ on the radio,” the fan told Thought Catalog. “When her kids finally got the chance to go meet Rihanna, she was sitting at her makeup booth and refused to face them, or even look at them. When they asked for her autograph, she told the closest backup dancer to forge it for them and shooed them away.

Considering Rihanna had only just been making waves in the industry, you’d have thought she would have been excited to lap up the adulation of the fans and be thankful for their support but instead, it seems as though she immediately took on the role of diva.

10. Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock isn’t someone you’d associate with rude behavior which makes her inclusion on this list even more shocking! According to a disgruntled fan speaking to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Bullock totally lost it when a fan requested her autograph at an event in 2012. “Sandra was so rude. She covered her face and yelled,” the witness said. “He just wanted an autograph, and she actually yelled at him!”

Worse of all? The autograph-seeker was reportedly a disabled veteran.
