Thanos debuted in Marvel’s The Avengers. Still, he has got only a few seconds of screen presence so far. Majority of the audiences didn’t even know who he was or what was his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Just in case, you haven’t spent time researching about the mega-villain of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, revealed the official Marvel Cinematic Universe origin story of the character recently and you can check it below.

He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that,” Feige told Entertainment Weekly. “What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again. He thinks he sees the universe going down the tubes. He thinks he sees life expanding outward unchecked. That will bring ruin, he believes, to the universe and to that life.”

Marvel Cinematic Universe is infamous for featuring villains who are not as deep or appealing as its heroes. However, Zemo from Captain America: Civil War and Erik Killmonger from Black Panther have started the trend of displaying strong reasons and deeper character layers for the villains. However, it remains to be seen whether Thanos would be another use and throw villain or a longer-term enemy of the Avengers, compelling heroes from all parts of MCU to come together against him.

Although Feige might be aware of the history of Thanos, we need to wait and watch how much of that history is shown in the Avengers: Infinity War. Considering the large number of heroes present, striking the right balance between showing Thanos’ origin story and providing scope to the heroes is going to be a huge challenge, but, the film reportedly has a runtime of 2 hours and 36 minutes, which is the longest ever in MCU. We hope that would be enough to take care of things.
