Are You Ready For A Female James Bond?

When Daniel Craig decides to part with his tuxedo, we may get to see a very different James Bond.

Producer, Barbara Broccoli had spoken to Daily Mail about the franchise’s future and she had been asked if a woman or a person of color may actually take over this role.

“These films tend to reflect the times, so we always try to push the envelope a little bit,” she replied. “Anything is possible.”

Craig is signed to play agent 007 one more time in Bond 25.

“Right now it’s Daniel Craig, and I’m very happy with Daniel Craig,” she said. “But who knows what the future will bring?”

There had been talks that Idris Elba may actually be looked at as a replacement for James Bond. The actor had said that he was contacted for this role and does not think that he would play such an iconic character.

As for rebooting James Bond as a female, it’s certainly possible. After all, Doctor Who is now a woman for the first time after Jodie Whittaker replaced Peter Capaldi. But Bond is a character defined by masculinity, so it could be a tough sell.

Roger Moore, who had played 007 in 7 movies from 1973 to 1985, had spoken to Daily Mail in 2015 and said that James Bond must remain a white, heterosexual male.

“I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond,” he had said.

“But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote. It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist—it is simply about being true to the character.”
