Born as Phoebe Belle Cates on July 16, 1963 in New York City, she is a former American movie actress, singer and model renowned for her work in many 1980s movies such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Gremlins.

Cates was born in a family of television and Broadway production people. Her father Joseph Cates was a major Broadway producer and a path-breaking television personality.
