Kristen Wiig was born on August 22, 1973, in Canandaigua, New York. Her father is Jon Wiig and Laurie Johnston. She has Norwegian, Irish, English and Scottish ancestry. She lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and studied at Nitrauer Elementary School and Manheim Township Middle School until eighth grade. She then moved to Rochester, New York, when she was 13 and studied at Allendale Columbia School and graduated from Brighton High School. She majored in art at the University of Arizona and took an acting class to fulfill a course requirement.She is best known for being a member on the comedy show SNL from November 12, 2005, and was with the cast at the beginning of season 32 in 2006 until 2012.A Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for SNL had Kristen Wiig up for nomination. She did sketches for the Christmas special SNL Presents A Very Gilly Christmas. She voiced Lola Bunny in the series The Looney Tunes Show. Her last performance as a cast member on Saturday Night Live was season 37, episode 22 hosted by Mick Jagger on May 19, 2012. She returned to host the program on May 11, 2013 and continued to do several more appearances on future SNL shows.
At the 2015 Grammy Awards, she danced alongside child dancer Maddie Ziegler for Sia’s performance of “Chandelier.” She acted in the movies, Unaccompanied Minors, Knocked Up as a passive-aggressive assistant and had small roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Ghost Town. She lent her voice to the animated movies Despicable Me and How to Train Your Dragon. Later in 2011, she starred in the hit comedy film Bridesmaids which was nominated for Best Picture- Musical or Comedy and Best Actress-Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy at the 69th Golden Globe Awards. The film also received two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay and for co-star, Melissa McCarthy, for Best Supporting Actress.
In March 2018, it was announced that the actress would be playing the villain the Cheetah in the next Wonder Woman film. The movie is titled Wonder Woman 1984. There are many versions of the villain, the most popular version of Cheetah being Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva.
