Born on August 31, 1979, Yara Martinez is an American TV actress who is renowned for playing the roles of Kelly in Hollywood Heights and Dr. Luisa Alver on The CW series Jane The Virgin. Martinez is Cuban-American of origin, but, she was born in Puerto Rico. She grew up in Miami, Florida, USA. Before becoming an actress, Martinez practiced ballet for ten years. Her grand-aunt was the prima ballerina Alicia Alonso.
She started her TV career with guest-starring roles. She was seen as Mariella Moretta in the TNT crime drama show Southland from 2009 to 2011, and as Theresa Lopez on the ABC Family drama show The Lying Game (2012-2013). She had also played recurring roles on Vanished, The Unit, Breakout Kings, and Nashville.
Martinez was a regular cast member of primetime soap opera Hollywood Heights in the year 2012. In the following year, she started appearing in the Amazon comedy show Alpha House. In the year 2014, she landed the recurring role in The CW comedy-drama show Jane The Virgin and HBO crime drama True Detective.
