Born on 4 May 1983 in Chennai (known as Madras back then) as Trisha Krishnan, she is an Indian film actress and model who mainly appears in South Indian films and is better known as Trisha. She has gone on to establish herself as a leading actress in South Indian films. Her parents are Krishnan and Uma and she was born into a Tamil Brahmin (Palakkad Iyer) family. She completed her schooling at the Sacred Heart Matriculation School in Church Park, Chennai and later went on to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course at the Ethiraj College for Women (Chennai). She tried her hand at modelling and featured in a number of print and television ads. In the year 1999, she won the “Miss Salem” beauty pageant and later in the year the “Miss Madras” pageant. She also won the Miss India 2001 pageant’s “Beautiful Smile” award.

Trisha had wanted to become a criminal psychologist at first and was not in favour of pursuing acting as a career since she wanted to finish her studies first. She has also appeared in Falguni Pathak’s music video ‘Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye’ as Ayesha Takia’s friend and the video was directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru. She was later contacted by film director Priyadarshan for a role in the Tamil film Lesa Lesa which launched her career as an actress. During her college time, she had a busy shooting schedule and it became difficult for her to continue her education. However, she made up for it by attending summer classes.

After Trisha appeared in a supporting role in the Tamil film Jodi (1999), she got her first lead role in the film Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002). She later became famous after starring in the successful films Saamy (2003) and Ghilli (2004) in Tamil cinema and Varsham (2004) in Telugu cinema for which she won her first South Filmfare Best Actress Award. She further won the award on two more occasions for Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005) and Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule (2007). In the year 2010, she debuted in Bollywood with Khatta Meetha. Trisha’s career best performances came in Abhiyum Naanum (2008), Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) for which she received Vijay Award for Favourite Heroine and was nominated for Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award.
