Born on February 22, 1980, Shamari DeVoe is the lead singer from the multi- platinum R&B group Blaque. She was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
The American rapper Lisa Lopes discovered her, and she also mentored Blaque. She was a founding member of Blaque with Brandi Williams and Natina Reed. The group’s first appearance was in 1997, in a music video for Lil’ Kim’s “Not Tonight.” Their debut album Blaque (1999) sold over 1.5 million copies and got a Platinum certification. Billboard called Blaque, the fourth “Best New Artist” in 1999.
In the following year, DeVoe played the role of a cheerleader named Lava in the comedy movie Bring It On. Blaque remained on hiatus until 2007 before eventually disbanding in 2008. Natina Reed died after getting hit by a car in 2012. DeVoe still performs with her fellow group-member Brandi Williams.
In November 2018, DeVoe was cast on the Bravo reality TV series The Real Housewives of Atlanta for the 11 th season of the show. She is now working on a collaboration with her husband Ronnie DeVoe titled Me & Mari. They released a single titled “Love Comes Through” on December 7, 2018.
She had married Ronnie DeVoe of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe on March 10, 2006. The couple have twin boys, Ronald and Roman born in 2017.
