Born as Rebecca Jane Pearch on August 29, 1959 in Santa Rosa, California, she is an American actress and producer. Her parents were Julie (Eagar) and Wally George (ne George Walter Pearch, a DJ and later television host. Her parents divorced when she was two and she took her stepfather’s surname, De Mornay at the age of five. She attended the independent Summerhill School in Leiston, Suffolk, England. She was later trained as an actress in New York at the Lee Strasberg Institute.

De Mornay debuted in the films when she played a minor role in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1981 film One from the Heart that starred her real-life partner of the time, Harry Dean Stanton. Her big break came in Risky Business (1983) where she played the role of a call girl who seduces a high-school student (Tom Cruise). On the small screen, she appeared as Wendy Torrance in a miniseries adaptation of The Shining (1997), and as Dorothy Walker on Marvel’s Jessica Jones (2015-2018).

De Mornay married writer Bruce Wagner on December 16, 1986 and they divorced in 1990. De Mornay later dated and was for a while engaged to singer Leonard Cohen. She was the co-producer of Cohen’s 1992 album The Future, which was dedicated to her with an inscription that quotes Rebecca’s coming to the well from the chapter 24 of Book of Genesis, and giving drink to Ellezer’s camels, after he prayed for the help.
