Born as Lois Cleveland Chiles on April 15, 1947, she is an American actress and ex-fashion model famous for playing the roles of Dr. Holly Goodhead in the James Bond movie Moonraker (1979) and as a hit and run driver in Creepshow 2 (1987). She also appeared in films like The Great Gatsby, The Way We Were, Death on the Nile and Broadcast News.

She was born in Houston, Texas to Marion Clay Chiles and Barbara Wayne Kirkland Chiles. Her father was the brother of oil tycoon and the owner of Texas Rangers, Eddie Chiles. She was raised in Alice, Texas.

Chiles attended the University of Texas at Austin and the former Finch College in New York City, where a Glamour editor spotted her while searching for a young woman to depict on the annual college issue of the magazine. She was selected for it and soon landed contracts with Wilhelmina Models, New York and Elite Models in Paris. Later she studied acting from Roy London. She romanced Don Henley, but, they broke up. In the year 2005, she married money manager Richard Gilder. They both happen to be the co-chairs of Northfield Mount Herman, a Massachusetts school. Gilder donated money to the school and they named the Chiles Theater after her.

During the early 1970s, Chiles had a lot of success as a model. She debuted on the big screen in Together For Days (1972).
