Born as Ketevan “Katie” Melua on 16 September 1984, she is a British Georgian singer and songwriter. She spent her initial years with her grandparents in Tbilisi before relocating with her parents and brother to Batumi, Ajaria, where her father worked as a heart specialist. During the time Melua had to at times carry buckets of water up to five flights of stairs to her family’s flat. She said, “Now when I am staying in luxurious hotels, I think back to those days.”

In the year 1993, when she was eight, her family moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland after the Georgian Civil War. Her father started working at the Royal Victoria Hospital. In January 2012, she confirmed having been engaged to World Superbike racer and musician James Toseland. They married on September 1, 2012 at the Nash Conservatory at Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, Southwest London.
