Born on May 17, 1976, Kandi Burruss (now Kandi Burruss-Tucker) is an American singer, songwriter, television personality, actress and business woman. She was born in College Park, Georgia. Burruss attended Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, from where she graduated in 1994. During her time at Tri-Cities performing arts high school in East Point, Georgia and Tamika met Kandi Burruss. They started singing together and a fourth member Tamera Coggins joined them briefly. Soon, Xscape was officially formed. They debuted at BET’s Teen Summit in 1992, and the girls met the record executive Ian Burke, who later managed the group. Xscape caught the attention of Jermaine Dupri who signed the group to his recording label So So Def Recordings. Their debut album Hummin’ Comin’ at Cha was released on October 12, 1993. The album reached number seventeen on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number 3 on the Top R&B Albums chart. It was a critical and commercial hit, and got platinum certificate within a year, leading to two top ten singles.

After Xscape was disbanded, Burruss focused on production and songwriting. In the year 1999, Burruss joined hands with groupmate Tameka “Tiny” Cottle to create the international number one hit “No Scrubs” for TLC.
