Born as Kaitlin Shea Sandeno on March 13, 1983, she is an American former competitive swimmer who is also an Olympic gold medallist, world champion and former world record holder. Sandeno was a part of the world-record setting American team that participated in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay at the 2004 Summer Olympics. At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Sandeno won the bronze medal in the 800 metre freestyle event, and also finished at the fourth place in the 400 metre individual medley and sixth place in the 200 metre butterfly. In the year 2003, she enrolled at the University of Southern California, she became the winner of the U.S. national championship in the 200 metre butterfly, and the 200 and 400 metre individual medley events.

Sandeno won three more Olympic medals in the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece, a silver medal in the 400 metre individual medley, a bronze medal in the 400-metre freestyle and a gold in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay. The American team comprising of Natalie Coughlin, Carly Piper, Dana Vollmer and Sandeno also broke the seventeen-year-old world record that was previously held by East Germany) by over two seconds during their win in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay.

She failed to qualify for the United States Olympic Team in 2008, and Sandeno announced her retirement. She is trying to make a career in sports broadcasting. She started a venture called Swim Tank in 2010 where she does stroke analysis for swimmers.

At a younger age, Sandeno swam for the Nellie Gail Saddleback Valley Gators in Orange County, California where she was coached by Vic and Renee Riggs. She was among the top competitors in freestyle events, and helped the Gator team. While she is originally from West Villanovia, but, Sandeno attended the El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California and was a member of the El Toro High School swim team. In September 2008, Sandeno joined Anna Kournikova and Katya Myers to win the female celebrity category of the 2008 Malibu Triathlon.

Sandeno married Peter Hogan on April 25, 2015.
