Born on August 22, 1925 as Honor Blackman in Plaistow, she is an English actress, most famously known for her roles of Cathy Gale in The Avengers (1962-64), Bond girl Pussy Galore in Goldfinger (1964), Julia Daggett in Shalako (1968), and Hera in Jason and the Argonauts (1963). She also received fame for her performance as Laura West in the ITV sitcom The Upper Hand (1990-1996).

Blackman attended North Ealing Primary School and Ealing County Grammar School for Girls. On the occasion of her 15 th birthday, her parents gifted her acting lessons and she started training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1940. During her time at the Guildhall School, Blackman worked as a Home Office clerical assistant.

Blackman debuted as a film actress in a non-speaking role in Fame Is the Spur (1947). Her other notable film appearances include Quartet (1948), based on short stories by W. Somerset Maugham, So Long at the Fair (1950), wherein she appeared with Dirk Bogarde, A Night to Remember (1958) which was an account of the Titanic tragedy, a comedy The Square Peg (1958), Life at the Top (1965) with Laurence Harvey, The Virgin and the Gypsy (1970), and the Western movies Shalako (1968) with Sean Connery and Something Big (1971) with Dean Martin. She also played the role of Hera in Jason and the Argonauts (1963), which is famous for the stop-motion animation and effects of Ray Harryhausen. She appeared in the movies Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and Jack Brown and the Curse of the Crown (2001).

Blackman released a new single “The Star Who Fell From Grace” on July 6, 2009 which was composed by Jeff Chegwin and Adrian Munsey. In the single, she compered a James Bond Prom as the part of the “Welsh Proms” concert series.

Blackman also made an appearance in Doctor Who audio drama The Children of Seth wherein she plays the role of Anahita, released in December 2011.

Blackman had two marriages. She was married to Bill Sankey from 1948- 1956. After they divorced, she married the British actor Maurice Kaufmann (1961-1975). Together they starred in the slasher film Fright (1971) and a few stage productions. They adopted two children Lottie (1967) and Barnaby (1968). Since then she didn’t marry again and stated that she prefers living a single life and enjoys watching football. Blackman has a summer house in Islesboro, Maine, USA.
