Born on January 3, 1975 in La Jolla, California, as Danica Mae McKellar, she is an American actress, mathematics writer, and education advocate. She was eight when her family relocated to Los Angeles. Her mother Mahalla was a homemaker while her father Christopher is a real estate developer, and her younger sister Crystal is a lawyer. McKellar studied at the University of California, Los Angeles where she earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree summa cum laude in Mathematics in 1998. During her graduation days, she jointly wrote a scientific paper with Professor Lincoln Chayes and fellow student Brandy Winn titled “Percolation amd Gonns states multiplicity for ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller models. Their results were termed as the Chayes-McKellar-Winn theorem”. Later in response to a question about their mathematical prowess, Chayes told The New York Times, “I thought that the two were really, really first-rate.” She played the role of Kevin Arnold’s recurring girlfriend Winnie Cooper in the television series The Wonder Years.
