Born as Cristina Capotondi on September 13, 1980 in Rome, she is an Italian actress. She was born in an Italian family of mixed Italian Catholic and Italian Jewish origins (her maternal grandmother was Jewish). She grew up in Rome and used to celebrate both Christian and Jewish holidays including Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah, and visited church as well as a synagogue. She graduated from Universita La Sapienza in Rome with a degree in Communication Sciences.

Capotondi first became famous courtesy of an advertisement for the “Maxibon Motta” ice-cream. Her acting career started when she was 13-years-old and appeared in the Italian series Amico Mio that was aired by RAI.

Capotondi’s cinematic debut was in 1995 in a comedy film Vacanze di Natale 95. Between 1993 and 2006, she did most of her acting work on TV and starred in the 2004-2006 series Orgoglio aired on Rai Uno. In the year 2009, Capotondi played the role of Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria in the ZDF/Rai Uno/ORF co-production Sissi.

Capotondi has been the spokeswoman for the 2011 Giro d’Italia.
