Born on November 20, 1981 as Andrea Louise Riseborough in Wallsend, near Newcastle upon Tyne, she is an English actress. Her mother is Isabel Johnson, a secretary, and George Riseborough, a car dealer. She was raised in Whitley Bay. Making a reference to The Long Walk to Finchley, she described her parents to be “working class Thatcherites.”

From a very young age, she started appearing at the People’s Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne, in the play Riding England Side Saddle by Christopher Goulding. Apart from films, Riseborough has been nominated for a BAFTA due to her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the TV film The Long Walk to Finchley (2008), and was critically hailed for her work in the Channel 4 miniseries The Devil’s Whore (2008), and National Treasure (2016). She has appeared on stage in various plays including August Strindberg’s Miss Julie and Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure (theatre Royal, both 2006) and Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov (West End, 2008).

Riseborough has been cast as an ER nurse who runs an eclectic therapy group in Lone Scherfig’s The Kindness of Strangers. The movie was set to start filming at the Russian Tea Room in spring 2018.

She has also been cast alongside Demian Bichir in a Sony remake of The Grudge, which entered filming in May 2018. Riseborough is also starring along side Gabriel Byrne in an international cocaine trade drama ZeroZeroZero, an 8 part series based on the book by Roberto Saviano. The series is into production and is undergoing eight months of shooting across six countries and three continents. It will be filmed in six languages and will debut on Sky in the UK and on Amazon in the US in 2019.

Riseborough is going to be a part of Possessor, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, based on a script he had written about Tasya Vos (Riseborough), an agent for an undercover organization who uses brain-implant tech to take over other people’s bodies, making them commit assassinations on behalf of high-paying clients.
