Born as Francesca Jean Halsall on 12 April 1990, she is a former English competitive swimmer who has been the representative for Great Britain at the Olympics, FINA world championships, and European champions as well as England at the Commonwealth Games. She took part mainly in freestyle and butterfly events.

Halsall happened to be the youngest member of the Team England swim squad at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, where she succeeded in winning silver medals in the 4×100 metre freestyle and 4×100 metre medley relays.

She was also a member of the European Aquatics Championships 4×100 metre medley relay team that won gold in August 2006 and she successfully defended their title in August 2008 in Eindhoven. At the 2010 European Championships in Budapest, Halsall won five medals including 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Bronze medal. She was a member of the 4×100 metre medley relay team that managed to defend their title for a second time. By winning the five medals, she became the most successful British swimmer ever at a single championships.

During the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, Halsall won the gold medal and established a national record of 26.19 seconds in the 50 metre butterfly, defeating the favorite Australians. In the 100 metre freestyle halsall was set to win easily, but, illness left her pale and weak and she somehow managed to hold on to the bronze medal. Barely 20 minutes later and despite finding it difficult to stand up, she appeared for the 100-metre butterfly semi finals, but, couldn’t make it to the final. Later in the tournament, Halsall recovered and won 3 more silver medals in the women’s 50 metre freestyle and as a member of the 4×100 metre freestyle and 4×100 metre medley relay teams.
