The Ethiopian athlete who competes in long-distance track events and who is also the 5000 meters world record holder and who is nicknamed the Baby Faced Destroyer is none but Tirunesh Dibaba.
She was born on 1st June in 1985 in Bekoji, Arsi Province, Ethiopia. She belongs to an athletic family and is a member of the Oromo ethnic group.
Her first fully international outdoor event as a junior was the 2011 World Cross Country Championships where she finished fifth. She placed second at the 2002 WCCC and also won a silver medal in the 5000 meters at the World Junior Championships in 2002. In her World Championships debut, she won 5000 meters in a sprint finish and that made him the youngest athlete who won an individual gold medal at the World Championship.
She became third in the 5000 meters at the Summer Olympics and became the youngest-ever medalist at the Olympics for Ethiopia at the age of 19. In 2005, she won two gold medals at the World Cross Country Championships. The following year, she won five of the six Golden League 5000 meter races and she was defeated in the 5000 meters at the African Championships. She won the 10000 meters and also 5000 meters at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. She also won the Zevenheuvelenloop 15 kilometers road race. She defended her 10000 meters title at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She made her marathon debut at the 2014 London Marathon and finished third. In 2017, she again ran at the London Marathon and finished in second place. She also ran at the Chicago Marathon and won a gold medal at the time of the 40th edition of the marathon.
She got married to Olympic 10000 meter silver medalist, SileshiSihine with whom she has a son. She also ventured into the hotel industry and established an eponymous Three Star hotel that opened at the end of 2013.
