Born as Paula Elizabeth Yates on 24^th April 1959 (died on 17^th September 2000), she was an English TV presenter and writer, most famous for her work on two TV shows, The Tube and The Big Breakfast. The late TV presenter was in a relationship for twenty years (1976 to 1996) with musician Bob Geldof. Yates died due to a heroin overdose at the age of 41.

Her mother Elaine Smith was a former showgirl, actress and writer of erotica from Blackpool, who worked under the stage name of Heller Toren. Until a late stage in her life, Yates used to believe that her biological father was Jess Yates, who had hosted Stars on Sundayon ITV since he and her mother were married from 1958 to 1975. He was 19 years older than her and their marriage was unconventional. According to Yates, she had a lonely and isolated childhood and her mother hardly played any role in her upbringing. She studied at a village Primary School named Penrhos College and Ysgol Aberconwy. After her parents separated in 1975, Yates spent most of her time with her mother, including some time in Malta and Mallorca where she studied at the Beliver International School before returning to Britain.

Yates began her career as a music journalist in 1979 with a Record Mirror column titled Natural Blonde, soon after she had posed for Penthouse Magazine. She became famous during the 1980s as the co-presenter of a Channel 4 pop music show The Tube. In 1982, she released a version of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin” by Nancy Sinatra. After her daughters were born, she wrote a couple of books on motherhood.

Yates appeared on a quiz programme Have I Got News for You on 27^th October, 1995 and clashed with Ian Hislop over his comments related to her breast enlargement surgery. Yates called him a “cunt” and as “the sperm of the devil.”
