It is immensely hard to believe that The Karate Kid was released 34 years ago. Since then, it has grown to become a very special and beloved movie, and it has spawned three sequels and a 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. In an interview, Ralph Macchio, the man who played Daniel Larusso had explained why he thought that this franchise is as popular as it is.
“It works on just all of us going through turbulent adolescent times and having that sort of mythical, magical human Yoda in the Mr. Miyagi character that gives direction we all would love to have… And then, it’s a story about friendship and navigating life. And then it has all the elements of a good movie, on top of that. I think that’s why it’s sustained. And then you have the pop culture of it all.”
